Abstract:

The advert of big data era has brought tremendous impact on information systems (IS) behavioral research. How to respond to the challenges caused by the new research context and seize the opportunities to advance the transformations of information systems behavioral research is significantly meaningful for the behavioral researchers in IS field. To fulfill this theoretical demand, this study collects papers published on top three journals in IS filed (i.e., MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, and Journal of Management Information Systems) in the past five years, and presents the distributions of the papers among three major paradigms (i.e., behavioral science, technology / design science, and econometrics). Besides, the application of three major behavioral methods (i.e., survey, experiment, and qualitative analysis) through these papers is also presented. Based on the statistical analysis, this study summarizes seven trends in information systems research (especially in behavioral stream) and explains the applications of mixed method, multiple studies, cognitive nuero method, qualitative comparative analysis and so on in information systems research with representative articles. Combined with the trend analysis, this paper provides some countermeasures and suggestions for researchers in the field of IS behavioral research.
