Abstract:
Social media is increasingly becoming a main access for users to get film information and share film reviews. This article selecting 24 movies in 2012 on two different social media platforms, “Douban Film” and “Sina Weibo”, reveals the characteristics and distribution law of film reviews and the differences between the two platforms. The main conclusions are as follows: the distribution of movie reviews by different authors is a power-law curve, but the productive authors on the two platforms respectively belong to different groups; the reviews increase rapidly after the release of movies, but their fluctuations with timeline aren’t the same; as for users’ sentiments, the index of subjectivity doesn’t increase or decrease obviously after release, while the index of polarity is more of variety.
