Abstract: This paper aims to develop a two dimensional research system of intelligence-integration to investigate the evolutionary development of management information systems. The intelligence dimension is based on the Knowledge Hierarchy and a mapping of human intelligence to decision making activities, and the integration dimension, on the system integration framework which unifies physical integration, data integration, application integration, process integration and presentation integration in an enterprise context. A series of conceptual models are built, in-depth analysis of the evolutionary development of some representative management information systems before and after traditional MIS including EDPS, DSS, GDSS, IDSS, EIS, ERP, and BI is performed and their inter relationships of are also explained in the two dimensional research system. In the end, the author reaches a conclusion that the evolution of management information systems is a continuous process of intelligence enhancement along the knowledge hierarchy and of multi-type integration in the system integration framework.
