A Path-Finding Era of Discipline: Exploring the Future from the Unknown

Abstract: Library science, information science and archival science were combined into a first-level discipline in 1997 and since then they have to face the challenges of informatization and to explore the way of discipline transformation together. Nowadays, the discipline are undergoing complex changes in some fundamental issues, including the discipline objects, boundaries, structures and tasks. Facing all the unknowns, scholars are taking an active part in theoretical and practical innovation and making great pioneering exploration in the education system and scientific research. A new discipline development direction is established to expand the connotation of the disciplline, to improve the application of science and technology, to strengthen social function of the discipline and to create a new future space for the discipline.
