Abstract: Based on 1.15 million papers of China’s international cooperation from 2000 to 2021, this paper studies the changes of China’s international cooperation status from the perspective of cooperation rate and dominance, combining CWTS research fields and WoS categories. The result shows that China’s international cooperation rate has not changed much, but its dominance has been increasing year by year, which has dynamically evolved from double low quadrant (low dominance-low cooperation rate) to double high quadrant (high dominance-high cooperation rate). There was different cooperation status in different research fields, and it changed in 70% of the disciplines. In addition, China’s cooperation with US, UK and Japan were in the double high quadrant, while its cooperation with France, the Netherlands and Italy were in the double low quadrant. The China-US cooperation rate was the highest, and China’s dominance increased year by year, but cooperation rate went up and then down. China should formulate differentiated international cooperation strategies to improve the efficiency, deepen and expand scientific and technological cooperation.
