Technology Metabolism Analysis Based on Knowledge Concept: Take 3G to 5G Technology Upgrade as an Example

Abstract:

This study proposes a technical metabolic analysis method based on the generation, growth and extinction of knowledge concepts. Based on the IEEE Xplore database, the 3G-5G technology is used as an example. Employing LLR algorithm, the expansion of new knowledge concept over time in the process of technology upgrading are discussed. A diachronic analysis of research topics in 3G-5G fields was conducted, and research subjects with long-lasting vitality were analyzed. The results of the study show that technology upgrading will bring about the metabolism of technology. Firstly, technology upgrading leads to the generation of knowledge concept peaks and prolongs the life cycle of a field. Secondly, in the process of technology upgrading, new research topics focus on the terminology and technical methods, while those long-lasting research topics focus more on theory and models.
