Abstract: 　The information resource management (IRM) of Government sites is the foundation of e-government service and an important part of the system of government IRM. Based on the theory of information life cycle, the theory of government IRM and the theory of mechanism, this paper constructs an analytical framework for a multiple case study. Under its guidance, the IRM of the government portal sites of Beijing, Shanghai and Zhengzhou are analyzed. Then, 8 mechanisms for the IRM of government portal sites are identified, involving organization collaboration, business outsourcing, process control, content management, information feedback, technology support, service orientation and institutional restriction. Finally, the paper prospects the future development of China government portal sites.
