Abstract: The research of "computational social science" and "social computing" has attracted more and more attention from domestic and foreign researchers. However, in the research of these two disciplines, there are cognitive ambiguities and confusions in terms of concept interpretation, field scope, research hotspots, and audiences of results. This article compares the concepts of domestic “social computing”, international “social computing”, domestic “computational social science”, and international “computational social science”. Specifically, the comparative analysis is carried out from three dimensions: the scope of the subject area, the topic hotspot, and the audience of the research results. It aims to compare the similarities and differences between "social computing" and "computational social science" research at home and abroad, to clarify the research fields and subject areas of "computational social science" and "social computing", to identify different research hotspots and priorities, and distinguish the audiences of research results. Overall, it provides references for the research positioning and future research directions of "computing social science" and "social computing" currently emerging in China.
