Abstract: Serving academic is the purpose and destination of academic publishing, but the academic publishing system dominated by publishers leads to the alienation of this basic function. Returning to academy should be the aim and destination of academic publishing system innovation under the background of new technology. This paper briefly reviews the evolution of academic publishing system which leads to the alienation of academic publishing function; analyzes the possibility and performance of the transformation of academic publishing system and the return of academic function driven by the development of information technology; and probes into the strategies of integrating stakeholders of academic publishing, innovating academic publishing system and promoting academic publishing to return to academic function by taking the opportunity of technological development.
